Probike Motorcycle Training Ltd - FAQ

Q. How long does a CBT take?
  A. We start at 10 a.m. and usually finish around 4.30

Q. Do I have to provide my own bike?
  A. No, we provide motorcycles and safety equipment as standard.

Q. Do I need to take a theory test before CBT?
  A. No, but we advise that you do reference the highway code for your own safety

Q. Do I need to do another CBT to move from automatic to geared machines?
  A. No, as long as the CBT is in force there is no need, but we do recommend that people upgrading or moving to geared machines have further training.

Q. What is the ratio of instructor to student?
  A. Maximum two students to one instructor during the on road training

Q. Is CBT a test?
  A. No, it is a training day. It is our job to get you to a satisfactory standard before issuing you with your certificate.

Q. Do I have to provide my own helmet?
  A. No, helmets are provided as standard, but if you have your own equipment please feel free to bring it.

Q. Do I need a licence?
  A. Yes, you need a licence with provisional entitlement for ‘P’ moped, or ‘A’ motorcycle, which you can apply for.

Q. What size of bike can I ride at 16 yrs?
  A. Up to 49cc with a design speed of not more than 31mph (50kph)

Q. What size of bike can I ride at 17 yrs?
  A. Up to 125cc, as long as not more than 14.6bhp

Q. How long does a CBT certificate last?
  A. At present CBT is valid for two years

Q. Can I use my own bike?
  A. Yes, it needs to be road worthy and legal, and display full sized ‘L’ plates front and back

Q. If I pass my practical test on a 125cc, what size of bike can I ride?
  A. At present you can ride a bike of not more than 33bhp (25kW) for a period of two years, after which any sized motorcycle can be ridden without the need for a further test.

Q. Do I have to take my theory test before my practical test?
  A. Yes but you may begin your training before taking your theory test

Q. Is there a quicker way to get to ride a bigger bike?
  A. Yes, it is called a Direct Access Scheme and is available to people of 21 yrs and over, and provides a fast track route to larger bikes.

Q. Do you provide theory training?
  A. Yes, as part of our standard course, we provide theory training, and training aids.

Q. How long does the training take?
  A. Very difficult to give exact time frame, as everybody learns at a different rate, but on average somebody with a little motorcycle experience and some road sense, 12 – 15 hours post CBT training is usually sufficient..

Q. How long does the practical test take?
  A. It takes approximately 45 mins from start to finish, including briefings.
